Due to the specialist nature of our business and the high volume of repairs, we now operate by an appointment system during weekdays and open for retail on Saturdays.

At Paignton we have a very large stock of new and second hand instruments.
We are sending instruments up and down from Maidenhead daily, so if there is an instrument or accessory you see on our website which you would like to try in Paignton, if it is not already in stock at Paignton we can have it here within 24hrs for you to come in and try. All South West repairs are carried out by Brian Sage Woodwind & Brass under the supervision of Brian in Paignton, where we have two fully equipped workshop areas in the shop for woodwind and a brass workshop up the road from the shop for the larger instruments, soldering, dent removal etc. All repairs are fully guaranteed and of the highest quality. The utmost care is taken to ensure your instrument is set up to suit you the player, and to ensure it is playing to it's full potential. Whether it's just a spring replacement or a complete overhaul the job is given the same attention to detail. A large stock of spares is held at Paignton to ensure a fast efficient service. Brian Sage stocks printed music independently of Dawkes Music.
We aim to keep in stock exam music and popular pieces; we also offer a mail order service.
Teachers, if there is a book or piece of music you are using regularly please let us know and we will endeavour to keep it in stock for you. We specialize in jazz publications such as Real/Fake books, jazz teaching aids and the famous 'Jamey Aebersold Play along' series of books, CD's and DVD's. By Train:

Main line to Newton Abbot then to Paignton. The rail station is only half a mile from the shop. Walk through the bus station opposite and follow the road sign for Totnes, turn right at the traffic lights into Winner Street, we are the 2nd shop on your right.

By Bus

Paignton Bus Station is on the bus route from Exeter and Plymouth. From Paignton bus station walk out through the entrance your bus entered the station. Follow the road sign for Totnes, turn right at the traffic lights into Winner Street, we are the 2nd shop on your right.

By Road

• M5 from Exeter take the A380
• Straight over Pen Inn roundabout at Newton Abbot,
• Through Kingskerswell 2 miles turn right at roundabout onto Torbay Ring road,
• Straight over three roundabouts
• Down Kings Ash Hill until you reach traffic lights at main crossroads (Riviera Tile company on your left),
• Turn left and then go past Paignton Zoo on your right, after of a mile you will come to traffic lights,
• Turn left into Winner Street. We are the 2nd shop on your right.

Parking

There is parking in Winner Street with hourly restrictions. For public car park go past our shop take 2nd right into Palace Avenue, then 2nd left and there is a pay and display car park. History of Dawkes Music Southwest

The History

Our South West Branch opened at No.29 Winner Street on 10th September 2001 in partnership with Brian Sage Woodwind & Brass Repairs.

Brian Sage and Lindsay Dawkes had been friends and work colleagues for many years with Brian previously working for Yamaha, U.M.I and Vincent Bach as well as running his own instrument repair business since 1987.

Dawkes South West has been very successful and proved to be very popular offering a local centre for West Country musicians who can now get to see and try any of the instruments from Dawkes Music's large stock.

The New Shop

The success we have had in Paignton with the support of our valued customers has meant we have been able to expand and open a new showroom at No.10 Winner Street, opposite our previous shop. The new shop opened on 1st December 2004. We now have a larger showroom, more printed music to browse through, increased facilities for repairs plus the advantage of instrument testing rooms so you can come in and try out new mouthpieces, instruments etc. in comfort without feeling inhibited.
