The Buffet clarinet range is the most popular and widely sold wooden clarinet range in the world.
Commonly misspelt Buffett, the French manufacturer has been in operation outside Paris since 1825.
The Buffet E13 is our top selling wooden clarinet as it sits nicely in the price range between student and the more expensive professional clarinets.
But what distinguishes the E13 from its competitors?
It starts with ease of play and of course a pleasant tone, for players upgrading from a student clarinet (usually made of plastic) the wooden E13 gives an immediate boost to the quality of the sound. Customers often comment on the richness and depth of tone, of course it’s not just the wood that helps with this but also Buffets internal bore design which helps lower resistance. The Buffet E13 also benefits from undercut tone holes; this is a procedure in the manufacturing where the holes that are in the body are expertly shaped as they enter the clarinet bore, resulting in better tuning and response. When playing a higher standard of music, or in advanced school or adult orchestras, it’s important that the quality of the sound being produced is complimentary to the quality of music. In fact in the graded exams, from 5 onwards, the quality of tone is actually taken into account when awarding marks, not just playing all the right notes!
Of course wooden clarinets need some extra care and attention, here at Dawkes we have our workshop on-site to not only pre-check all the instruments to the highest professional standards, but we can offer the advice and support you need in the early stages of wooden clarinet ownership. The Buffet clarinets, like all others, require careful preparation before sale and also we like to check them over in the first year to ensure everything is settling in nicely. With that in mind we offer a free courier service if you are unable to get to the shop for this check, of course it helps though if we can do it in person with the player.

Take it to your teacher, test it in the band, play it in your own environment.
If you decide it's not for you we will refund 100% of the instrument cost, the only costs to incur will be return postage (£15 if we collect it with our couriers).

We can't stress enough how important high quality pre-sale checks are on wind instruments.
The instruments that we stock are chosen from high quality manufacturers,
these instruments may travel hundreds or thousands of miles to us though from the manufacturing plant.
We assess the instruments in our workshops and make any necessary technical adjustments to ensure all the moving parts are balanced and working correctly.
Our skilled technicians and musicians take each instrument through a unique multi-point check that ensures you receive it 'ready to go' for your next lesson or performance.
These checks will make playing the instrument easier and more enjoyable; we call it the 'extra 5%' that improves your instrument over one 'straight from the box'.
Our Buy-Back scheme is automatically applied on all new instrument sales...free of charge!
We're confident in the quality of instruments we sell, but we also know sometimes players can give up or circumstances can change and customers end up with an instrument that's not being used.
If you return your instrument to us within 6 months of buying we offer a 90% REFUND, less the original VAT paid. You won't find many shops or web-sites offering this level of back-up!
All instruments we sell are covered by a minimum of 1 year warranty. What does this cover?
Well, pretty much everything except damage caused by the user.
Often pads, corks, springs, valves, slides etc need some settling in and so our experienced technicians are on hand to make any adjustments you require within the first year, absolutely free of charge.
If you're not local we can arrange a courier to collect and return your instrument, free of charge whilst under warranty. This procedure only takes 3-5 days and the instrument will be back with you, ready to keep playing!
