Service rating : Very helpful. The product arrived safely and in good condition. Product : I needed to be able to practise the saxophone without disturbing others and this instrument ticks this box perfectly. The sound through the sax's own speakers is as expected, somewhat tinny and electronic. However, through the headphones and external speakers it is really quite impressive. The tenor sax in particular sounds great to my ears as do not possess an acoustic version. It really is an amazing piece of kit and my only worry for the future is how long it will last due to its plastic parts and the moisture that inevitably passes through it. Another useful feature is that I am able to play in tenor sax mode using the same music as my wife on the b flat clarinet. No need for any transposition. I've also found that in battery mode the batteries soon run out of power so using an external power source is to be recommended. Apparently, there is not a great difference between this model (120) and the (150). Thank you Yamaha for creating the 120 and lowering the price quite considerably!

It can often be hard to find close matches between the increasing number of synthetic reeds however there are also other options (which can be found via our website) if you did want to experiment with an alternative to the Legere range.

The reed itself plays well but hasn’t quite nailed the sound I’m looking for which is a personal thing so I’ve reverted to what I usually use. Everything else about the reed is great and I’m certain it would suit others. They come up a little stronger than a lot of other reeds so I’d suggest having a quick online live chat with Silverstein and they’ll happily advise what strength will likely correspond closest to what you’re already playing.
A challenge with these reeds is accessibility in the UK because I’d like to try the classic cut instead (soprano) but it looks as if I’d need to order from overseas due to so few UK dealers stocking them, and those which do don’t usually have enough strength options in stock. As such, ordering overseas with delivery etc becomes expensive and although Silverstein offer a return (if purchased from them), returns to USA aren’t really viable because it seems consumers pay postage (Legere offer a much better return’s option).
For me (and I already play S Ambipoly on Tenor), once correct strength and sound have been identified, and you spend time getting used to them, the playability and consistency of the reeds are hard to beat, but I haven’t managed to do that for my soprano setup yet and doubt I’ll be changing from current reeds anytime soon due to reasons given.

Service rating : Dawkes are always knowledgeable and goods are despatched promptly if in stock. I have used over a number of years now and have been very satisfied. Product : I have started using this to relieve elbow pain from supporting the weight of the clarinet. It works very well. It has sufficient adjustment and the design stops the neck strap from being too tight around the neck.
