This premium gouged Bassoon cane will require profiling and then shaping by hand or using a shaping block before it can be formed into a Bassoon reed.

Gonzalez cane is grown in Mendoza, Argentina in the foothills of the Andes on the biggest cane plantation in the World. Only organic fertilizers are used on the plantations and they do not use any artificial pesticides. Mendoza’s beautiful sun and soil are essential in order to obtain this excellent raw material with its special sound and unique yellow color. The harvest takes place in winter when the cane is the driest and the sap has settled to the bottom of the plant. The canes are harvested by hand with pruning shears and are cut only after the second lifecycle. Only the best pieces are selected based on the plant’s age and diameter. The canes are laid out in the sun for 30 days, being individually rotated by hand in order to make sure that the drying is complete and uniform.

Most people start reed making with gouged, shaped and profiled cane. As you gain more experience you might start shaping and profiling your own cane so that you have more control over the finished reed. Bundle of 10 pieces.
