Legere reeds are made from a special polymer compound with a very fine microtexture. They have low density, so that they float, just like cane reeds. This hi-tec material is designed to mimic the properties of damp cane as closely as possible.
This Standard Cut Legere makes quite a dark sound and as such has been appreciated by classical players and also players taking grades and using a more 'traditional' set-up. Legere also produce a Studio Cut which is more for Jazz players, and also a Signature series which are more expensive and made of a stiffer material but arguably more flexible because they are cut to a thinner profile.
The life span of these synthetic style reeds can be months and they produce a very consistent sound from start to finish.
- Standard cut more suited to classical and grade players.
- The profile creates a darker sound than the brighter Studio Cut type.
- They generally feel a half strength harder than Vandoren Traditional.
- Extremely consistent.
- Strengths from 1.75 to 2.75 in half size increments.

Bought to try as had used on clarinet. Must say I prefer the standard vandoren cane reeds on soprano sax as they seem more expressive.
