Matit are pioneers in contemporary flute design. Based in Finland, they have brought carbon fibre flutes and headjoints to the market in recent years. This headjoint is constructed with a carbon fibre tube and solid silver lip plate, riser and tenon.
We currently have two Matit headjoints available in our second hand stock. As they are handmade, each differs slightly - the major difference being the cut of the embouchure hole in the lip plate. Naturally, this means each of these headjoints respond differently!
The two headjoints share similar tonal qualities. The carbon fibre construction gives the sound a 'wooden' quality, but with the projection of a solid silver headjoint. Therefore you have a lovely open, hollow and warm tone, but with a crisp response of articulation thanks to the solid silver lip and riser.
This particular headjoint (CMCH-2) has a more rectangular, larger embouchure hole than it's counterpart. This results in a very broad, room filling tone, and is predominantly smooth and mellow. It would be easy to blend with such a mouthpiece, but with great projection, so would suit someone in an ensemble setting. The tone is generally softer than the other Matit we have in stock (CMCH-1).
