Product Information
The Etude 3 is a lightweight thumb rest for clarinet and Oboe made out of durable plastics. The Etude 3 enhances the freedom of playing by better positioning the weight of the instrument. This leads to faster and easier movement of the ring and little fingers and it prevents fatigue of the thumb and hand.
This Kooiman clarinet thumbrest will give you a sense of control, resulting in much of the energy used for supporting the weight of the instrument becoming available for handling the instrument, and can be used to improve control and speed of finger technique.
The Etude 3 comes with screws to attach the back plate to your instrument through the existing holes from the original thumb rest, this generally means you don't have to drill any new holes. If the holes do not line up, our workshop technicians are able to assist.

Difficult to fit to my sons yamaha clarinet, I had to make a packing piece so that it cleared the keys.
Brilliant device takes all the stress out of supporting the clarinet.
Early days, but seems to do everything as promised.
Not quite successful for me
It didn't work for me - but I knew I could try it out and get a refund if necessary. It would help if the manufacturer could publish a technical specification on-line so that you could work out if your clarinet would need new holes drilling or not. My Selmer 10G would have required new holes, and that was one consideration against keeping the Kooiman thumbrest.

Works as described and eased pressure on my thumb .
It has been a big improvement on my old thumb rest for my clarinet, and I will continue to keep using it.
Had to get two new holes drilled as the original ones didn't line up. Thumb rest has a few different settings, so after a brief period of adjustment, it is now in the best position. It is definitely helping the thumb hypermobility problems and enabling my daughter to reach the keys more comfortably now. She's pleased with it.
A very well engineered device that makes playing the clarinet much easier and very much less painful on the thumb. It also gives better control of the instrument. However I would not recommend fitting this yourself without a drill stand that has a depth gauge. Ensure that the instrument can be held firmly without risking any damage to the keys. I had to drill four new holes to fit the back plate, since the holes for the original thumb rest didn't quite line up with the new device. The main body of the thumb rest slides off quite easily when the clarinet is put away, so that there is no issue with the instrument going back in its case. Strongly recommended.
