This Yamaha YFL-481 is an open hole step-up/pro model with a B foot joint. The 481 series features inline key-work which is preferred by some pro players, it's different to the slightly more common offset key-work system where the G key pair sticks out slightly further from the body.

The instrument itself is in nice overall condition. The head, body tube and foot are all made of sterling silver. This adds a great richness and density to the tone. It also aids projection and really adds carrying power to the tone which is required when playing in ensembles. The silver plating is clean with just the usual light signs of use throughout.

This 481 features a B foot joint which is an excellent addition and allows the player to tackle all playing requirements of the modern Flute player. The low B note is found in certain repertoire, and some players also feel the instrument plays slightly darker and fuller because of the extended tube length.

Commonly UK beginners start on an offset key-work system, but in many countries (US, Australia, many in Europe) they actually prefer the inline system believing it promotes better technique and is a more traditional system that affords the best tuning scale for the instrument. If you're not sure, or you've not tried and inline system before we'd suggest trying this and seeing how you get on, you'll probably find it feels pretty similar.

In summary, this is a great option for any advancing or upgrade Flautist to get a sterling silver head, body and B foot with open hole keys. This set-up would cover you in any professional environment and any musical genre. It would also be a great option for a professional doubler/tripler who want's a high spec pre-owned model for an affordable price.
