The Bach 180ML 43 offers players a more focussed and direct alternative compared to the 37 bell version. The number denotes the mandrel tool used to shape the bell and is not reflective of size but the shape of the taper throughout the bell. This 43S is the silver plated version which also affects the tonal characteristics compared to lacquer.
The 43 shape bell flares differently to the 37, it's a personal choice as to what you may prefer and we'd encourage trying both. In general, players tend to feel the 43 has a more direct projection and clarity compared the 37. We find 43 players tend to more on the commercial, jazz, big band end of the scale. The 37 is arguably the best all round but some like the added focus of the 43. The 180ML series as a whole offers a medium large bore which is 'standard' in Trumpet manufacturing.
