Product Information

Rovner's next-generation Versa-X ligature features a heavy metal alloy plate adding mass to the reed and offering the player the option to reposition the fabric flaps. With the metal plate exposed, the ligature offers a brighter, more projecting sound. With the fabric flaps covering the plate, the ligature plays with a much darker, richer sound. It is also possible to cover one side only to help correct uneven and irregular reeds.

We selected 4 Rovner ligatures to try (light, dark, versa and versa-x). The difference in sound production was pretty indiscernible, but hey did "feel" different to play. In the end we selected the versa-x because it felt good and secured the reed well. This turned out to be a good decision for a concert in which the mouthpiece had to be swapped to a different clarinet a lot - it made it reliable in the transfer.
