The Vandoren Black Diamond ebonite mouthpiece features a unique internal and external design. This new internal design developments offer the musician a full sound, rich in depth and colour, especially in the upper register of the clarinet. There are now a number of BD model options (see below table) - each offers a different tip opening and facing design. Check out the info and table below for all the relevant tech specs.
Vandoren BD2: A full, rounded tone which uses the facing design of the M13 lyre. Highly regarded for precision and purity. The closest tip opening and thus rewards using harder reeds.
Vandoren BD4: Similar sound emission/quality to the BD5 (the original BD design), but the BD4 has a slightly larger tip with a Med-Long facing. We advise comparing the two where possible.
Vandoren BD5: The original BD design and still them most popular at Dawkes. A great balance of resistance, response and depth of tone. Perfect with Rue L'Epic #3 or #3.5 reeds for the majority of players.
Vandoren BD6: Ideal for players who prefer a slightly larger tip opening, such as the classic B45 type design. The BD6 has a medium facing length and suits slightly softer reeds than the BD5.
Vandoren BD7: Designed for players wanting a wide tip opening and thus broader more spread sound. The tip opening is large and thus it suits a softer reed set-up.

warm tone and smooth with good dynamic range, but for me I found it a little restricting to blow.
A really great mouthpiece
This is a new mouthpiece from Vandoren once l had found the right Reed strength for me was Rue Lepic 2.5 or 3 can\'t wait to try it with my band when we are allowed to play again.
Very good but I liked the Bacun better. This was more suited to a gig than a house - I’m not gigging much any more.
