This is the new model Yamaha SILENT Brass SB7J system for Trumpet or Cornet. This outfit includes the PM7X mute and the STJ personal studio. This new STJ outfit offers a host of advanced modes (see below) and nicely updates the whole system. 

What is SILENT Brass?

The SILENT Brass system allows players to insert a lightweight free-blowing pickup mute (PM7X) into their Trumpet or Cornet which drastically reduces sound output to near silence. The mute connects via a single cable to a personal studio (STJ) which offers a variety of playing modes. The user simply connects the included headphones to the personal studio to hear themselves clearly through the system.

What's new in the latest SILENT Brass generation?

The new STJ Personal Studio unit features Yamaha's patented Brass Resonance Modeling Ver.2.0. This technology effectively cancels the closed sound and feel of a normal mute and reproduces the open sound of an unmuted instrument. This reduces stress on the player and allows you to practice more freely without over-straining.

The new system offers two sound modes. The PLY mode (Player) lets the player hear exactly how the instrument would sound to them normally without the mute…with the benefit of no-one else hearing it! The AUD (Audience) mode simulates the sound of their instrument as heard by an audience at a distance.

The STJ Personal Studio now offers both a reverb dial (up/down) and also two reverb ‘environments’ of ROOM or HALL. When combined with the choice of PLY or AUD mode this gives you a whole variety of different sound environments to experiment with.

Connecting & Recording the SILENT Brass System

The new Personal Studio now includes a Micro USB port so it can easily be connected to a computer or smart device via the supplied micro-B to USB-A cable (you will require an after-market adapter for use with your smartphone).

The Personal Studio STJ can now also be connected to the free Yamaha Rec'n'Share app for smart devices. This makes it possible to play-along with audio stored on the device AND to capture the performance as a sound recording or movie that can be shared online.
