The Yamaha YTS-480 Tenor Saxophone has an authoritative Tenor sound and benefits from some improvements on the old YTS-475 model. It is positioned between the student YTS-280 model and the professional YTS-62. We find it to be an excellent value Saxophone for advancing players and woodwind doublers.
The Yamaha 480 Tenor Sax has a slightly broader and fuller sound than the student YTS-280. This is due to the more open taper in the neck and the slightly thicker gauge brass and construction which adds a very small amount of extra weight compared to the 280. This results in a fuller, richer sound with more projection.
The YTS-480 Tenor features a hand-engraved bell which adds an element of extra aesthetic class. The neck mechanism also allows you to add a Custom Series neck should you wish to later on, thus extending the life of the instrument by allowing for that featured upgrade.
Mechanically the YTS-480 takes some beating. The instrument features an improved low B-C# connection which ensures consistent closing fo the low C# key to help that low note speak more cleanly. The left hand seesaw key has also been re-designed to increase playability at speed and provide a much more comfortable feel on those notes.
All in all, an excellent upgrade model that offers a great sounding and very comfortable all round package. The Yamaha YTS-480 Tenor Sax is a popular step-up due to its versatility of tone.
