Alexander 103 - Double French Horn (AD92)

SKU: SAFH-AD92

Product Information

The Alexander 103 is the standard orchestral French horn, and has been for over a century. Gebr. Alexander have been making instruments in Mainz since 1782, the 103 was designed in 1907 with its valve system patented in 1909, and it remains hand made in Germany to a standard of workmanship that is difficult to fault. You will hear a section of them in the Berliner Philharmoniker.

The 103 has a light, compact sound with a presence that carries easily, and there is an electricity to the Alexander tone that is not really heard elsewhere. The full combination of Bb and F horn gives the player real flexibility in intonation and colour. The change valve turns only sixty degrees, so the thumb action is very short and quick, and the rotors run on silent Minibal linkages that never need restringing. The horn can be set to stand in either Bb or F with nothing more than a screwdriver.

This particular example is in fair visual condition with the majority of it's original lacquer not present. The rotary valves move freely and have a positive feel when depressed. All tuning slides have been freed up too so these move with ease. Like all our pre-owned instruments it has been fully checked and set up in our workshop prior to sale by one of our experienced technicians, so you can buy with total confidence.

It is supplied with a very nice Marcus Bonna case and Denis Wick straight mute. This particular instrument has a detachable bell which is accommodated by the case it comes in. Included with the outfit is a tunable Denis Wick straight mute and 2x mouthpieces (Vincent Bach 7, Alexander 8M).
