Product Information
The Altus company was founded by Shuichi Tanaka and produces handmade flutes in the town of Azumino in central Japan. Altus are among the most innovative makers when it comes to alloying and to new methods of construction, and the flute is treated as a piece of art, drawing on the European tradition of flute craftsmanship that runs back through Lot and Boehm.
This is a .958 Britannia silver instrument, a grade above the .925 sterling used on most flutes, and that extra silver content shows immediately in the power and the projection. It gives a full, rich tone with added strength, width and depth, and the hand finishing that goes into an instrument at this level of the range is what separates it from a machine made flute of similar material. This is a professional instrument for a player who wants the best of what Altus do.
This particular example is in overall good condition. The silver has numerous hairline scratches all down the body, but these do not show themselves unless you look extremely closely. The pads have been replaced with brand new deluxe flute pads. The mechanism is as delicate and responsive as a new handmade Japanese flute should be. Like all our pre-owned instruments it has been fully checked and set up in our workshop prior to sale by one of our experienced technicians, so you can buy with total confidence.
It is supplied with the original Altus hard inner and leather-style outer case. Cleaning gauze is included but no cleaning/tuning rod or silver polishing cloth. The head joint, body tube and C foot joint are all .958 Britannia silver, with an inline G key, no slit E mechanism and open holes.
