This is the new Altus A12 flute, the first in their Legend Series. This particular model has open holes and C footjoint which gives it the model code A12REO. This newly improved A12 model takes over from the ever-popular A1207 range which was a popular professional level Flute. The 12REO features a Sterling silver lip-plate, riser, headjoint, body AND mechanism. The enhanced silver content which includes the full mechanism (vs the A11) adds an element of ‘weight’ to the tonal core.
What's New on the Altus A12 Flute?
The new range features a modified scale which allows for better intonation, a more even tone across the range, and a more stable harmonic structure on each note. There are also some small changes in the padding of the flute to make it more resonant.
Perhaps the most important change though is the new headjoint design. It's based on the old S cut design but it has a new lip-plate shape and embouchure design. Like any great headjoint cut it balances resistance with expression and we've been very impressed with the new headjoint design. It retains that classic large Altus sound and is easy to play and manipulate the dynamic range.
