This is the new Altus A13 flute, the second model in their Legend Series. This particular model has open holes, a C footjoint, and a 14K gold riser which gives it the model code A13REO-SI. This newly improved A13 model takes over from the ever-popular A1307 range which was a popular professional level Flute. The 13REO-SI features a 14K gold lip-plate & riser, a .958 Britannia Silver headjoint, body and footjoint with a sterling silver mechanism. The enhanced .958 Britannia silver content adds an immediacy and real sparkle to the tone.
What's New on the Altus A13 Flute?
The new range features a modified scale which allows for better intonation, a more even tone across the range, and a more stable harmonic structure on each note. There are also some small changes in the padding of the flute to make it more resonant.
Perhaps the most important change though is the new headjoint design. It's based on the old S cut design but it has a new lip-plate shape and embouchure design. Like any great headjoint cut it balances resistance with expression and we've been very impressed with the new headjoint design. It retains that classic large Altus sound and is easy to play and manipulate the dynamic range.
