The Backun Vocalise series is a collaboration between master craftsman Richard Hawkins and Backun Musical Services, designed to bring complex resonance and tonal clarity to players of all ages and experience levels. Each model in the Vocalise range offers distinct playing characteristics while maintaining the hallmark clarity and responsiveness that define the series. Crafted from hard rubber using Richard Hawkins' decades of experience with the world's finest artists.
The series includes four distinct models: the R (closed, short facing) for articulate, clear playing with reduced effort; the G (medium facing) for smooth interval connections and versatile playing; the H (open, long facing) for smooth, dark tone with additional flexibility; and the Z (extreme open, long facing) for players seeking maximum volume, projection and flexibility without sacrificing tonal quality or requiring excessive embouchure pressure.
All Vocalise mouthpieces pair beautifully with both synthetic reeds like Légère and traditional cane. Available in Standard and Standard Plus bore sizes to suit different instruments, including Selmer Paris, Yamaha CSG, Buffet, and most other clarinet makes. All new mouthpieces arrive cleaned, disinfected and sterilised for immediate use.

A no fuss mouthpiece that plays well in all octaves.
Good sound and fits my Bliss clarinet well.
Super mouthpiece, really smooth and rich sounds throughout the registers. Intonation is great in the upper registers, articulation is clean and accurate. The H is a little more open than the G and provides a lovely depth of sound for me. Love it!
This gives a lovely, dark sound across the registers. on my Selmer clarinet. The trade off is that it isn't quite as easy to play but I love the sound so much that I've decided to adapt!
Nice sound and very easy blowing. Perfect with Legere reed.
