This is the CONNfirmation CAS811 Alto Saxophone, a very exciting new entry to the professional sax market. It's a Limited Edition 150th Anniversary model with very limited stock avaialbility (150 worldwide!) and it's really quite something.
The legendary CONN Saxophone name started in the 1880's. It's with a renewed vigour that we welcome this iconic brand back into the pro marketplace for the first time since the 1960's. With a brief to deliver a true vintage American sound with modern ergonomics each instrument is hand-assembled by CONN master technicians in Elkhart, Indiana.
Visuals & Materials
The looks are stunning due to the heat-fused aged brass finish. It has a warm, beautiful vintage-looking patina, plus it has a plethora of vintage design nods. The brass they use to produce these Saxophones is the same that is used to produce the legendary Bach Trumpet range of instruments. The bore design is a complex taper, larger than many modern saxophones with meticulously chosen tone hole positioning and heights.
The bell features a gorgeous Art Deco hand-engraved design, and each of these Saxes is also individually engraved with it's limited edition number. The wire key guards are reminiscent of the very best vintage CONN Saxophones of years gone by. With more of a modern touch they have also added a heavy-weight nurled neck screw which has a carefully selected mass to add resonance.
The pads are Pisoni Pro models which are among the very best pads available anywhere, and they're coupled with flat CONN metal resonators. These selections give the Sax a very positive feel under the fingers, plus a vibrant sound thanks to the metal resonators.
One of the most talked about features though is the ConnSonic process which CONN describe as a proprietart suite of modern technologies applied during the manufacturing process to enahnce the tonal complexity and character. CONN are understandably protective of what this process involves but initial player tests report the effect of a very rich sound with distinct and complex overtones.
The Outfit
The CONNfirmation comes complete with a custom hardshell case, a grenadilla wood end plug, along with a hand-finished Brilhart Ebolin mouthpiece - Brilhart being a legendary American mouthpiece brand, and the Ebolin models offer a warm, characterful sound which is a perfect match for this instrument.
In summary, this is a numbered, hand-built, limited edition saxophone from one of the truly great names in American instrument making. It's totally different to any other professional model currently on the market and we think it's the ultimate bridge between vintage character, sound and feel, combined with the best of modern manufacturing.
