Product Information

Uniquely for Tenor, the New York model has a larger chamber than the Super Tone Master (STM) standard models. This results in a darker, tubbier sound that is perhaps more spread out. The baffle remains the same as on the STM as does the facing curve.

The NY model is a slight reference back to a period of vintage design in the Link back-catalogue. It would suit players wanting to create a darker, richer and perhaps fuller Tenor tone. This might be useful in smaller group jazz or solo scenarios. You may find the STM is a better fit if you want something brighter and livelier. Only the Link Vintage model has a larger chamber than the NY.

I had a #5 New York and a #4* Super Tone Master on 7 day approval from Dawkes. I much preferred the #4* STM so suggest you look at that review to understand why. Basically the NY has a dark, warm, spread tone that was not what I was looking for. The #4* STM has a brighter tone, is free blowing and felt just right!
