This new thumbrest from ProTec features an extension plate that runs down the back of the instrument, under the thumbrest. This is in place to help support your thumb not just from the padded rest but also as it touches the back of your instrument. It may also help prevent slipping when you've been playing for some time.

This is the LARGE size version which is best suited to quite wide clarinet or oboe thumbrests, larger than 13mm diameter.

This is the most comfortable thumb rest cushion! Option "large" was good choice because a standard oboe thumb rest is fairly wide.

The thumb rest cushion fit perfectly on my clarinet's thumb rest. I was a bit worried about that. I haven't yet played the clarinet with it on but I think it will help. (This was on back order so it arrived later than my original order.)
