This is a gorgeous unlacquered Selmer Adolphe Sax model Alto Saxophone from the early 1920's. To be precise this serial number (according to Selmer's own internal list) would have been produced in 1922. During this early period Selmer were producing models stamped ‘Selmer Adolphe SAX’ and also ‘Selmer Modele 22’ - they were however essentially the same instrument.
This particular example has aged in a very attractive manner with fully unlacquered body and keys. Aesthetically this suits this vintage Alto Sax very nicely. From a mechanical point of view the instrument is in excellent working order. Like all our pre-owned Saxophones it has been fully checked and set-up in our workshop prior to sale. This ensures you can buy in total confidence.
The pads are in excellent overall order and we have made routine regulation adjustments to ensure it's perfectly set-up and ready. The instrument has no major signs of previous repair or modification, in fact it looks extremely original throughout. It is supplied with a Hiscox hard case which helps keep it nicely protected.
From a playing point of view, these older Selmer's have a sweet sounding tone which is perfect for music of that period. This Sax would be great for any Altoist in a dance band or small group jazz scenario. The mechanics and layout of the left hand table keys are always a little different compared to new horns, but nothing you can't quickly get used to.
