This Selmer Mark VI tenor is one of the finest saxophones to come through our workshop. Pick it up and the keywork feels balanced and alive, there is very little play in the pillars, and the sound has that distinct Mark VI character players spend years chasing. Our technician rated it one of his favourite jobs to date.

The serial number places its production circa 1969, a sought-after era for the Mark VI. It has been set up with Music Medic black Roo pads and gold reflectors, giving a firm, responsive seal across the full range. Aesthetically it is in honest vintage condition, with the usual light signs of age and slightly heavier lacquer loss around the sling ring. Nothing about the wear is out of the ordinary for a horn of this pedigree.

It comes in its original case. The latches are a little tired, so we would recommend securing it with a strap as the previous owner did, or upgrading the case if you prefer. The crook is protected by a BG pouch.

It has just had a full service in our workshop: dismantled, cleaned, de-greased and dent-worked where needed, tone holes checked and resurfaced, pads re-seated, corks and felts replaced, then reassembled, regulated and tested to full playing order.

New, the closest equivalent is the Selmer Supreme at £8,959. This is the instrument that made the Selmer name, ready to play, at £4,995.
