Vandoren Profile Soprano Saxophone Mouthpiece - SP3

Great tone and very easy to play. Even on first play, it was like it was meant to be. Love the tone through the registers. I use the AP3 on my alto and this SP3 certainly lived up to expectations.

Produced the playability and sound I wanted.

Based on a discussion and recommendation with Sam at Dawkes I compared three mouthpieces and spent a couple of weeks with them all. In my head I had already chosen one of the others before they had even arrived (such is the influence of online narrative) but within minutes of trying the SP3 I knew it was the right one for me. I still went on to play each of the others for three days each, so I could adjust to them all fairly, but I was pleased to come back to the SP3. I was able to control my intonation pretty accurately, quite something on the soprano, I was also able to control the sound both at much lower volumes, and when needed at higher expressive volumes. I have a preference for classical, but do play Jazz, Blues and the occasional general pop tune and believe this mouthpiece is all I'll ever need. I would never profess to being a mouthpiece expert, but this was a very clear upgrade to the Yanagisawa mouthpiece that came with my soprano and just fits everything I am doing with the soprano. As is the case with every mouthpiece, there is no right answer for everyone, but I am 100% happy with this. At time of writing I have now been playing it for over two months, so plenty of time to settle in. I would add, I needed to go up half a step on reed strength for the SP3 to get the best out of it.
