Returned, as it did not suit my Clarinet.
It was a replacement for my damaged one and suits my setup
This had a bright tone that was clear and 'zingy'. I could push the dynamics to both extremes. Articulation felt neat and crisp. I found this to be very free and easy to blow. For me it lacks a deep warm tone -but my priority was to find a mouthpiece that made playing feel more free and easy - and this mouthpiece did that job for me.
At first I found this to be stuffy to play but with different reed options I found it had a good dynamic range and warmer tone than the 5RV Lyre. I found it a little freer to blow than others I tried but for me there was still some restriction.
This had a clear and bright tone but with some warmth to it and articulation was super crisp. Dynamic range was good. I did love the warm of its tone and flexibly but for me there was still an element of restriction in blowing.
I am a peripatetic woodwind teacher, primarily an oboist. I have been struggling along with a clearly very inferior mouthpiece on the elderly second hand clarinet I use for teaching (a Corton). Dawkes advised me to try this mouthpiece and the tone I can now achieve is markedly better - even on the throat notes which were previously extremely weak and unstable. I\'m no expert on matters to do with the clarinet, but this has certainly worked well for me.
It didn’t suit me. I’ve been a tenor sax player all my life and I needed more body to it.
Also good but not the one I bought
it was obviously not a good mouthpiece to go with my clarinet. The sound it produced was week compared to my present one and the BD5
The supplier responded:Dear Valued Customer, Thank you for your feedback as we are always looking to improve our products and services to you.The 5RV is a very different mouthpiece to the BD5 and I'm pleased you returned it within the approval period for a refund as it wasn't suitable. If there is anything else we can assist you with, please feel welcome to contact us anytime and we'll be delighted to help.Best regards,Linda at Dawkes
This is my second purchase and chose a slighter narrower lay this time. Excellent tone. Probably need to experiment with a slightly harder reed
