With a raft of new features, the new Yamaha YBS-82 Baritone Sax completes the 8 series custom range of Saxophones and it is an absolute beast of a Baritone! Yamaha have worked for years on this model with a view to improving the brilliance of the mid & high end tone whilst also adding weight and 'fatness' to the bottom end. The YBS-62 has always been a very highly respected Baritone and no doubt this new YBS-82 has raised the bar to an even higher level.
As well as changes to the internal bore and core brass materials (this model uses the same custom alloy as the 82 and 875 Sop, Alto and Tenors) there are also some practical physical changes to this new model:
New Bell Design
The YBS-82 features a shorter, one piece bell designed to enhance intonation and response in all registers.
The YBS-82 now comes with a custom C1 neck. The C1 series (also available on Alto & Tenor) offers a centred, rich tone with precise slotting. There will also be optional add-on necks in the E1 and V1 range so players can modify their neck choice to suit their playing style. (All optional necks are purchased separately)
Floor Peg and Peg Receiver
Yamaha have fitted a lightweight floor peg and receiver to help support the Baritone Sax when playing. This is a great addition and had only previously been seen on other brand models.
Revised Key Layout & Materials
Not only have some of the keys been modified from the YBS-62 but they are also made with a new alloy material for improvements in speed and response. There have been changes to the; Front F key, low A key, Octave Key, right-hand pinky keys, left-hand palm keys and left-hand pinky keys. All with a view to sit more comfortably under the fingers to facilitate speedy technique.
Case with Wheels
Finally! The YBS-82 Bari Sax will come with a hard custom case that features no less than 4 handles (3 side and 1 top) as well as two heavy duty wheels to make transporting the case as easy as possible.
As usual the manufacturing of the Yamaha Saxes is second-to-none and the intonation is impeccable throughout. The outfit also comes supplied with an ebonite Yamaha Custom mouthpiece with ligature and cap.
