Carrying on their impressive exploration into the mouthpiece market, D'Addario present this Reserve Alto Sax mouthpiece which is squarely aimed at classical and grade playing.
The design style is similar to the Selmer S80 C* and Vandoren AL3 models but with the usual D'Addario machining quality they will arguably have more consistency than the Selmer in particular. The ebonite compound used is a little denser than Vandoren and as such this should bring a little more warmth and depth to the tone, possibly a little more projection as well.
The new Reserve design offers the required response and flexibility for even the most demanding modern classical saxophonists. The chamber shape and size encourages excellent intonation from top to bottom and offers excellent flexibility throughout the range and across dynamics. This mouthpiece would be suitable for advancing students doing grades, or playing in school ensembles, as well as more advanced experienced players/teachers who would like something a little different to the usual Selmer and Vandoren fayre. The amazing consistency, due to the manufacturing process, also means that any Teachers recommending this model to students can rest assured the student will get a mouthpiece just as good as their own.
