Arguably the most famous living Saxophonist, David Sanborn has become a legend in the Saxophone world due to his amazing body of work and signature sound. Since 2014 he has been playing and performing exclusively on this Drake Signature model Sanborn model Alto Sax mouthpiece.

The Inspiration

This model design was informed and inspired by several of Aaron Drake's designs coupled with Sanborn's most beloved vintage mouthpieces. The goal was to produce a modern masterpiece that could perform at the highest level and to the highest of demands from a discerning musician such as David Sanborn.

Model Attributes

Each Sanborn Signature mouthpiece is precision-milled from virgin brass rod stock, then extensively hand-worked and finished by mouthpiece expert Aaron Drake. Aaron's vast experience and dedication to his craft ensures each mouthpiece is an exact reproduction of David Sanborn's own. These models are in limited supply due to the extensive time and hand-production in each mouthpiece. Each model has a unique serial number engraved on it, along with David Sanborn's signature and the Drake logo.

How Does This Mouthpiece Play?

This model has a stunning flexibility and range. It offers a precise, instant attack and the ultimate level of projection. The acoustic concept is based on a tree-tiered baffle design with a medium Venturi chamber. The primary baffle is hand-polished whilst the chamber is hand-contoured. 

The transitions between the baffles is left untouched to create a clean crisp line that creates turbulence in the air flow. This helps encourage certain desirable upper partials in the sound. This mouthpiece is VERY free-blowing with just enough resistance to create your own tonal colour and expressive touch. 

Outfit & Tip Openings

The Sanborn Signature Mouthpiece comes complete with a custom-fit Drake Quad-Point ligature. Designed to sit near the end of the mouthpiece table, it allows the reed to vibrate with total freedom, allowing for an instant response and resonance.

Available in a #6 (.08') / #7 (.085') or #8 (.09') tip opening. David Sanborn plays a #8 model.
