The Renard Artist Model 250D by Fox USA was designed for advanced students and devoted hobbyists wanting a premium instrument. Made 100% in the USA from select aged Red Maple it features a full German key system in silver plate (full spec below).
The Model 250D provides an even and balanced response across the whole range. It has impeccable intonation with a flexible and singing tenor register. The instrument features a beautiful warm and dark tone throughout. These qualities are delivered because of the long bore design. This is in contrast the shore bore Model 240D which as a brighter, more flexible tone. It's a matter of personal taste as to which you may prefer.
The Fox Bassoon company was originally started in 1949 when professional player Hugo Fox retired from the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. He set out to make double reed instruments that would satisfy the most discerning artists. Today, the Fox company continue the art of hand-crafting instruments in the same place it all started: South Whiley, Indiana, USA.
