The Jody Jazz DV CHI Tenor is a uniquely designed mouthpiece that delivers a huge, full sound with remarkable depth and fatness. Originally developed by Jody Espina to create the most efficient tenor mouthpiece possible, the DV CHI produces a darker tone that sits perfectly between the contemporary brightness of the DV and the vintage darkness of the DV NY. Tonal character is reminiscent of Dexter Gordon, yet entirely at home in modern playing contexts.

The beautifully shaped baffle and chamber offer low-end power with exceptional resonance whilst the scalloped chamber allows players to push generous air flow without any harshness. The DV CHI combines the best properties of both the DV and DV NY series whilst introducing design modifications—including Golden Section proportioning and secondary window technology—that genuinely enhance tonal manipulation and articulation. Free-blowing and effortless to play, this mouthpiece suits the natural voice of the tenor with its lush low register balanced against a powerful upper range.

Available in a variety of sizes including 7 (.101), 7* (.108), and 8* (.116), the DV CHI Tenor is equally at home on a ballad or an up-tempo tune. Players often find themselves needing a slightly harder reed than usual due to the free-blowing nature; this benefit is outweighed by increased reed longevity and enhanced altissimo response.
