The Jody Jazz DV HR is a very free blowing Alto Sax mouthpiece. It offers a huge dynamic range with lots of projection and power. Happily the bottom end is both easy and broad in tone. The DV design by Jody Jazz was originally made for metal mouthpieces, but now with this DV HR you get some of that power and response with all the comfort and control of an ebonite mouthpiece.
Alto Sax players generally need something that can cut through but still retains plenty of warmth and depth of tone. The DV HR is a fantastic new addition to the marketplace and we think lots of players will appreciate its combination of power and finesse. The DV HR uses the patented DV secondary window which Jody Jazz claim adds mid and low harmonics to the sound. This is because the sound column is resonating off the reed at that point, not off the hard surface of the mouthpiece.
The DV HR Alto Sax model is the first hard rubber mouthpiece in the Jody Jazz range to feature a bite plate embedded into the beak of the mouthpiece. The new bite plate not only looks great but it is also functional to protect the mouthpiece. We would however also encourage players to use a standard mouthpiece protector atop it.
