The JodyJazz HR* CUSTOM DARK Soprano eliminates the unpleasant shrillness often associated with soprano saxophones whilst delivering a warm, dark tone with genuine jazz character. Jody Espina designed this premium hard rubber soprano around a rich tonal aesthetic inspired by Branford Marsalis. The result is a singing soprano mouthpiece without the brightness that exhausts sensitive ears.
Built from JodyJazz's proprietary Chedeville® Rubber—a softer, purer hard rubber formula—the CUSTOM DARK features a large round chamber with curved sidewalls that add harmonic complexity. A gold-plated brass band on the shank boosts overtones, whilst the expertly hand-finished baffle ensures responsive articulation. Players report exceptional ease in the altissimo without sacrifice of intonation, plus shapeable power when needed.
The CUSTOM DARK Soprano comes with a deluxe mouthpiece pouch and is available in a variety of sizes. The large chamber typically requires positioning further on the cork than standard soprano mouthpieces for optimal tuning. Ligature sold separately.
