This is a nice clean condition pair (Bb and A) of Selmer 10G wooden professional level clarinets. At the time of production these models were on par with Buffet R13 which were the leading clarinets in production at that point (prior to Prestige etc). The 10G has a great projection and evenness of tone across the range, it's more 'American' in it's design than the 10S which was more from a European style of bore shaping.
The G in 10G stands for Gigliotti, the surname of the principal clarinet player in the Philadelphia Symphony orchestra at that time. The story goes that Gigliotti played Buffet R13's and worked alongside Selmer, and the famous acoustic technician Hans Moennig, to make the 10G series which were supposed to play very similarly to Gigliotti's highly customised and acoustically tweaked R13s.
The 10G series was born, and this was a strong attempt by Selmer to grab some US market share where the R13 was so dominant. The 10G ran alongside the 10S for a time and these were the flagship Selmer models in production.
These particular examples are in great overall condition with just light signs of use. The wood is clean and has been well cared for, there are no chips, marks or cracks. The keywork is silver plated and is in equally good condition. The clarinets have been checked and serviced by our specialist woodwind technicians before sale and are supplied in a double case (no mouthpiece).
As is usually the situation with pairs, the A is the most aesthetically appealing because it's had less use. But, both Clarinets have clearly been well maintained and loved in their life. The usage looks low to us bearing in mind the logo's are still showing nicely and the wood condition is great.
