The most famous Saxophone model ever? Surely so, the Mark VI name has become legendary for Sax players around the world. Many people seek out great examples on Sop, Alto, Tenor and Baritone because of the excellent ergonomics and unique sound.
This is a 1964 low A model Mark VI Baritone Sax. The instrument has original lacquer which is in pretty good shape overall, with just some nice looking signs of wear. The instrument has no major marks or bumps to speak of on the tubing or keywork.
The padding and regulation is all in excellent order and as part of the pre-sale preparations the instrument has been fully checked and set-up in our workshop prior to sale ensuring an easy and consistent blow across the whole range from top to bottom.
You will see from the images this Baritone has a silver plated neck with the addition of a strengthening brace underneath. We can confirm the neck is a Selmer MKVI model neck, it appears to have been silver plated during it's life and the brace added to provide extra support.
The keywork feels very well laid out under the fingers and it's no exaggeration to say that 99% of all modern Saxes base their keywork layout on the MKVI models. This low A example has the full range to cope with any musical scenario from classic jazz & big band to thumping out those fat Tower of Power style Bari Sax lines.
In summary, this is a nice honest example of a used but well cared for and well maintained vintage Bari to low A. The neck is in good condition and the various small bits of lacquer loss throughout just add to the original character.
