Vandoren VK Synthetic Reeds

Vandoren’s VK synthetic reeds are the result of seven years of research and development in France. The VK line offers a synthetic, fully recyclable alternative to cane reeds, crafted from a composite material. Designed to closely replicate the acoustic qualities of natural cane, they provide the durability and consistency players have long wished for, without sacrificing tone, response, or feel.

VK reeds are currently available for B♭ clarinet and alto saxophone. They have quickly gained popularity among professionals, educators, and advancing players alike. Whether you’re performing in a concert hall, marching band, or in a pit orchestra, VK reeds are built to deliver reliable tone and performance in all conditions.

What are the options?

Choose between two options: VK1 for both clarinet and saxophone, and VK7 for saxophone only. Each option suits a different playing style. VK1 delivers a centred, stable tone, ideal for classical and crossover saxophonists who prioritise precision and control. In contrast, VK7 caters to jazz and contemporary players, offering greater flexibility, projection, and a more open response for expressive, dynamic playing.

COMING SOON – VK for Tenor Saxophone

Exciting news! Vandoren will release VK reeds for tenor saxophone in September 2025. Building on the success of the clarinet and alto saxophone models, the tenor sax VK range will offer their two distinct styles:

  • VK1 – Tailored for classical and cross-over saxophonists, with a clear, stable tone
  • VK7 – Designed for jazz players, offering flexibility and projection

Both models will feature the same patented VK composite, consistency-focused design, and durability. With this launch, tenor saxophonists will soon be able to experience all the benefits VK reeds bring: less prep, longer life, and reliable tone – every time.
